Wrinkle-Free Fabric Banners (9oz Dye-Sub) — Photo Backdrops, Tapestries & Indoor Displays
What is dye-sublimation and why does it look better than vinyl? Will a fabric banner wrinkle in shipping? Can it be washed? Answers to the most common questions about 9oz wrinkle-free polyester banners for photo walls, retail and events.

When vinyl looks too industrial, fabric is the answer
Vinyl is printed on the surface. Fabric is printed into the fibres. Dye-sublimation uses heat to turn solid dye into gas and drive it directly into the polyester — so there is no ink layer to crack, glare, or catch a camera flash. The result is soft, saturated, matte colour that feels like textile, drapes naturally, and photographs beautifully. Our Indoor Fabric Banner is 9oz wrinkle-free polyester, hemmed on all sides, with optional grommets and pole pockets.
Why fabric wins for photo backdrops
- Zero glare. Flash and ring lights bounce off vinyl as a bright hot-spot; fabric absorbs the light and the logo pattern stays legible in every shot.
- No visible seams or grommet shadows in photographs.
- Wrinkle-free weave means the backdrop looks pressed straight out of the box after a quick shake-out.
- It hangs with weight and drape — it looks like a set, not a sign.

Will it arrive wrinkled?
Fabric banners ship folded in a poly bag. Because the 9oz polyester is a wrinkle-resistant weave, most fold lines disappear within an hour of hanging. If a stubborn crease remains, a hand-held steamer or a household iron on the polyester setting (from the back, with a cloth in between) removes it in seconds. Never iron the printed face directly.
Can a fabric banner be washed?
Yes — this is one of the real advantages over vinyl. Dye-sub prints are permanent within the fibre, so machine-wash cold on a gentle cycle, no bleach, and hang to dry. Colour will not run or fade with normal washing. This makes fabric the right choice for restaurants, gyms, schools and any venue where a display gets handled.
Sizes, hems and hanging
- Prints up to 96" (8 ft) wide in a single seamless piece and up to 100 ft long — a full 8 × 8 ft or 8 × 10 ft photo wall needs no seam.
- Hems on all sides are included and give the banner clean, weighted edges. Choose "No Hem" only for banners going into a sewn tension frame.
- Grommets are optional — every 24" all sides, top-and-bottom, or left-and-right.
- Pole pockets (2" or 3") top and bottom for hanging from a crossbar or telescoping backdrop stand — the most popular option for photo walls.
Designing for dye-sublimation
Dye-sub reproduces rich mid-tones and gradients beautifully but cannot print white (the fabric itself is the white). Any white in your design is simply unprinted fabric — which looks great, but means white text on a dark background is slightly softer than on vinyl. Avoid very fine hairlines and reversed type under 0.5". Supply CMYK PDF, TIFF, AI, EPS or PSD at 150 DPI full size with 1" bleed; a Kolt designer pre-flights every file.

Frequently asked questions
- Can fabric banners be used outdoors?
- For a covered patio, tent or short outdoor event, yes. Polyester is water-resistant and the dye is UV-stable for months. For a permanent outdoor install choose 13oz or 18oz vinyl, or mesh for wind.
- Is the fabric banner see-through?
- Slightly, if there is a strong light directly behind it. Against a wall or curtain it is fully opaque. For a backlit display, order the tension fabric with a blockout liner.
- Can I print both sides?
- This product is single-sided. Dye-sub does bleed through the fabric faintly, so the back shows a mirrored ghost image. For double-sided fabric we sew two panels with a blockout liner — request a quote.
- Is fabric flame-retardant?
- Our 9oz polyester meets NFPA 701 flame-retardant standards commonly required by convention centres and hotels. Ask us for the certificate if your venue requests it.
- Does fabric fade?
- Not indoors. Dye-sublimated colour is inside the fibre and does not rub off, scratch or fade under normal indoor lighting for years.
- What is the difference between this and tension fabric?
- 9oz wrinkle-free is a non-stretch fabric that hangs or drapes. 8.8oz tension fabric is a 2-way stretch knit designed to pull tight over a frame. Use tension fabric for frames and 9oz for hanging or pole-pocket displays.
