Outdoor vinyl is built for distance — indoor banners are built for scrutiny

Outdoor scrim vinyl has a faint woven texture. From 20 ft away nobody notices. From 3 ft — in a trade-show aisle, behind a reception desk, next to a product on a retail floor — that texture softens type and shows up in photographs. Our Indoor Super Smooth banner is printed on 14mil double-white popup film: a dense, perfectly flat substrate with no scrim weave, a bright white face on both sides and a low-memory core that will not hold a crease.

What does "low memory" mean?

Most banner materials remember how they were stored. Roll standard vinyl for a week and it wants to stay curled; fold it once and the crease is permanent. Popup film is engineered for retractable and pop-up hardware that rolls the graphic in and out hundreds of times — so it flattens within minutes of being unrolled and shows no roll-memory at the edges. That is why it is the correct material for a banner you will pack, ship and re-hang every show.

Flush-cut or grommets?

  • Flush-cut (default): the banner is trimmed clean to the finished size with no hem and no hardware. It is the minimalist look for hanging systems, clip rails, banner stands, and adhesive-backed mounting.
  • Grommets (optional): choose 4-corner, every 24" all sides, top-and-bottom, or left-and-right. Pick this if you will hang from hooks or tie into a truss.
  • Custom placement: need grommets exactly where the venue's hooks are? Note the positions in the production notes when ordering and our team will match them.

Does it work in a retractable stand?

Yes — that is what popup film is made for. Order the graphic at your stand's exact panel size (a standard 33" retractable takes a 33 × 80" or 33 × 81" graphic with a 3 – 4" leader at the bottom for the cassette). Check your hardware spec sheet and add the leader to the height in the configurator. If you are unsure, our designers will confirm dimensions before printing.

Why not just use fabric indoors?

Fabric is the better choice when you want a soft, matte, glare-free finish — photo backdrops, tapestries, hanging drapes. Super Smooth is the better choice when you want crisp edges, saturated colour, fine type and a surface that wipes clean. Product launches, pharmacy counters, dealership showrooms and conference wayfinding almost always look sharper on Super Smooth. Compare it with our 9oz Wrinkle-Free Fabric banner before deciding.

Resolution and colour for close viewing

Because this banner is read up close, treat it like a large poster rather than a billboard. We recommend 150 DPI minimum at full size — and 200 DPI if the artwork contains photographs of faces or fine product shots. Design in CMYK, keep body text at 1" or larger, and avoid very light tints that can look washed out under warm exhibit-hall lighting. Submit PDF, TIFF, AI, EPS or PSD; every file is pre-flighted by a Kolt designer.

Production and shipping

Standard production is 2 business days with next-day rush available. Banners ship rolled in a rigid tube from Houston, TX. Because popup film is low-memory, it lies flat within minutes of unrolling — no waiting a day for creases to relax.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the Indoor Super Smooth banner outdoors?
Short term only — a covered entryway for an afternoon is fine. It is not UV-stabilised or wind-rated for extended outdoor use. Choose 13oz or 18oz vinyl for outdoor installs.
Is the Super Smooth banner glossy or matte?
Satin. It has a slight sheen that gives colour depth without the glare of a gloss finish, which is important under booth lighting and camera flash.
What is the largest size available?
Custom sizes up to roughly 53" wide by 93" tall in a single piece — the format most retractable and pop-up frames use. Larger displays should look at our tension fabric or 9oz fabric banners.
Will the banner curl at the edges?
No. The 14mil double-white film is significantly stiffer than scrim vinyl and hangs dead flat, which is exactly why it is used in retractable stands.
Can I order multiple different graphics in one order?
Yes. Use "Add Another Job" in the configurator to add each artwork with its own size and quantity — they ship together.
How do I clean it?
A soft cloth with mild soap and water. Avoid solvent cleaners, which can dull the surface.
