Buyer's guide

Custom hang tags, strung and finished under one roof.

Kolt Printing is a B2B printer with a dedicated hang-tag line — most of our tag orders come from apparel brands, boutiques, wholesalers and agencies reordering season after season, not one-off consumers. We print, die-cut, drill, string, eyelet, reinforce and corner-clip every tag in our Houston facility, with the capacity to take on 50+ hang-tag orders every single day — from a 100-piece boutique run to a 500,000-tag apparel program. Pick your stock (14pt/16pt C2S, 100% recycled natural, 18pt kraft, silk or suede laminate, or die-cut bottleneck), choose from 29 strings and cords with your knot style, 12 eyelet platings, fiber-reinforced holes and 45° clipped corners, and see the live price for your exact quantity. Every order gets a free digital proof from a real prepress designer before anything prints.

Built for volume: 50+ hang-tag orders a day

Hang tags are our core product line, and the floor is staffed for it. Digital and offset presses run 14pt to 18pt cover all day, two die-cutters handle standard and custom shapes, and a dedicated bindery bench does stringing, eyeleting, fiber patches and corner clipping in-house — nothing is farmed out, so nothing waits on a vendor. That is how we clear 50+ hang-tag orders daily and still ship most standard runs in 3–5 business days, with rush production available when you need tags for a drop, a trade show or a launch.

Which hang-tag stock should you choose?

Regular Hang Tags on 14pt or 16pt C2S with gloss UV or matte aqueous are the everyday retail tag: bright full color, sturdy, budget friendly. Natural Hang Tags are 100% recycled cream stock with visible fibers for organic, apothecary and slow-fashion brands. Brown Kraft Hang Tags (18pt, post-consumer recycled) give the rustic, hand-crafted look coffee roasters, candle makers and denim labels love. Silk Laminated tags add a smooth, scuff-resistant matte film for premium apparel; Suede Laminated tags have a velvety soft-touch finish that customers cannot stop handling. Bottleneck Hang Tags are die-cut to slip over wine, sauce, spirits and cosmetic bottles with no string at all.

Stringing, knots and cords — 29 options, done in-house

Choose Machine Runnable strings (black poly, polished cotton, #6 and #10 poly, 3- and 5-ply hemp, imitation jute, red-and-white bakers twine, pearlray, 1/16" satin ribbon, metallic and covered elastics) or Manually Applied cords (polished jute, waxed imitation leather in 1 mm and 2 mm, satin rat-tail, single- or double-face satin ribbon, grosgrain, twisted rayon, braided and flat elastics). Every string has a reference code you pick from our string boards, then choose Knotted, Looped, Wired or Loop-Knotted. Tags arrive strung and ready for the tagging gun or the sales floor — no evening of tying twine.

Eyelets, fiber reinforcing and clipped corners

Rolled-flange eyelets in 3/32" to 5/16" sizes and 12 platings (brass, antique brass, copper, nickel, zinc, aluminum, steel, white, red, shiny black, dull black, white zinc) give the hole a finished metal rim that never tears. Fiber reinforcing adds a 9/16" patch on one or both sides around a 3/16" or 1/4" hole for heavy garments and tags that get re-hung. Corner cutting clips one, two or all four corners at the standard 45° up to 1.5" for the classic luggage-tag silhouette without a custom die. Each finish is priced as a flat set-up plus a few cents per tag, shown live before you add to cart.

Sizes, holes and artwork

Stock sizes run from 1.5" × 3.5" to 4" × 6" with a top-centered 1/8" drill hole included; custom sizes, shapes and hole positions are a die away. Send a print-ready PDF with 0.125" bleed, fonts outlined, CMYK, and keep barcodes and price boxes 0.125" inside the trim. Our free downloadable dielines carry locked cut, score and safety layers for Illustrator, InDesign and any PDF editor. Variable data (SKU, size, color, price, QR) is available on every stock.

Turnaround, proofs and shipping

Standard production is 3–5 business days after proof approval; rush and same-day options appear at checkout when your quantity qualifies. Every order includes a free digital proof — nothing prints until you approve it, and our prepress team flags low-resolution logos, missing bleed and hole-position conflicts first. We ship nationwide from Houston, TX via UPS and FedEx, with blind shipping available for brands, agencies and wholesalers.

Hang tags: frequently asked questions
How many hang-tag orders can you handle per day?
Our Houston floor is built around hang tags and clears 50+ hang-tag orders every day, from 100-piece boutique runs to 500,000-tag apparel programs. Presses, die-cutters and the bindery bench (stringing, eyelets, fiber patches, corner clips) are all in-house, so volume never waits on an outside vendor.
Do you string the hang tags for me?
Yes. Pick one of 29 strings and cords by reference code — poly, cotton, hemp, jute, bakers twine, satin ribbon, waxed leather, elastics and more — and your knot style (Knotted, Looped, Wired or Loop-Knotted). Stringing is $98 set-up plus $0.12 per tag and the tags arrive ready to hang.
Can I add metal eyelets to my hang tags?
Yes. Rolled-flange eyelets come in seven sizes from 3/32" to 5/16" and 12 platings including brass, antique brass, copper, nickel, zinc, aluminum, black and white. Eyelets are $98 set-up plus $0.12 per tag.
What is fiber reinforcing on a hang tag?
A 9/16" fiber patch applied around the hole on one or both sides so the tag will not tear when it is pulled, re-hung or shipped on heavy garments. It is available with a 3/16" or 1/4" standard hole (custom 1/8", 5/16" and 3/8") for $95 set-up plus $0.12 per tag.
Can you clip the corners of my hang tags?
Yes. Corner cutting clips one, two or all four corners at the standard 45° angle, up to 1.5" along each edge, for a luggage-tag look without a custom die. Corner cutting is $115 set-up plus $0.04 per tag.
What is the minimum order for custom hang tags?
Most stocks start at 100 tags, with pricing tiers that fall steeply at 500, 1,000, 2,500 and 5,000+. Bulk programs of 50,000 to 500,000 tags are quoted individually with offset pricing.
How fast can I get custom hang tags?
Standard turnaround is 3–5 business days after proof approval, plus shipping. Rush production and same-day options are shown at checkout when your quantity qualifies; strung and eyeleted tags add about one day of bindery time.
Which hang tag is best for clothing?
Regular 14pt/16pt tags with matte or gloss coating are the apparel standard; Silk or Suede laminated tags for premium lines; 18pt Brown Kraft or Natural recycled stock for sustainable and denim brands. All can be strung, eyeleted or fiber-reinforced.
